The Lifetime Christmas Carol Project
I can't remember if I've brought this up in the past, but every year I have a personal goal of watching several new versions of A Christmas Carol. My favorite version I've seen this year is the live production from Sugar Factory Playhouse. This small troupe made me feel everything community theatre should; it’s always wholesome and heartwarming to see communities coming together to take part in the arts.
Now, I can hear what your asking: “but Sunnie, what's your favorite adaptation you've seen so far?!” Well friends, that would be the 2019 FX mini series.
This is a darker and more haunting version that holds no punches when it comes to critique of capitalism. This version doesn't focus on the salvation of Scrooge, but about the harm that he causes in his business and personal life. It's streaming on Hulu, and while it is a longer time commitment, it's by far my top recommendation. And if you have a favorite version, please email me and let me know, cause I'm always looking for new ones.
Thank you for reading this little letter, and I hope to see you at an event this month.
